An evening of traditional and contemporary pieces evoking, through gamelan music, dance and song, the ancient and mysterious world of Java. Long slow archaic compositions with Sanskrit-derived texts intoned over interlocking gongs and percussion contrast with the sensuous lyricism of modern love songs.
